Two major events are on the horizon ✨ I’m launching my new body of work for my latest collection titled 🌿Safe Passage🌿 AND I will finally be opening the doors to our new gallery!! 🎉 • I’ll be announcing the dates SO SOON!! As eager as I am to embrace my community again, we are giving ourselves and others permission to ease back into a comfortable rhythm. • All of my new paintings will be available online. 7 years ago I was minding my own business eating dinner at the bar at @cafecarmo when in strolls @woodyharrelson . Waiting to pick-up his order, he turns to me smiling, striking up flirty conversation, then all of a sudden blurts out, “So what kinda Asian are you?” — 😳😂 I almost choked on my veggie acarajé. “Filipino - I’m Filipino” I replied. 😂🥴 The icing on the cake was that the person working the bar was my boyfriend, now husband, and he witnessed the entire exchange of me getting awkwardly hit on by one of our favorite actors. The point of this story is to set the record straight and to celebrate this month of May being Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 🌴🇵🇭 • Over the years, I’ve watched the confusion on peoples faces upon walking into my studio wondering why a very Spanish RODRIGUEZ is all over the glass windows, and here I am (👋 hi hello, it me 💁🏻‍♀️) , my “face not exactly matching my name”. In a nutshell, the Spaniards colonized the Philippine Islands for over 300 years - religion, architecture, language and naming systems were all influenced by Spanish rule. So there you have it. 👍✅ • Much of my work incorporates the colors and themes of the tropics and I love that so many of you resonate with the festive yet laidback vibe which I owe to my roots. I’m continuously re-discovering how both my heritage and my present environment living in beautiful southern Louisiana inspire my work, so I’m delighted to be linked up with @janvincentgonzales , a platform highlighting artists like me of Filipino descent. Happy Wednesday 🌞 I have been away from my studio and missing my paints and brushes so much. I’m attending to lots of other projects, and little by little the new gallery space is coming together.
